London: 15th September, 2021

Carbon Underwriting Limited (Carbon), the leading specialist, independent managing general underwriter (MGU), is pleased to announce the appointment of Hugo Bashall as Head of Operations with immediate effect.

Hugo began his insurance career at MS Amlin, performing a number of roles across operations and strategy, including establishing and running an office overseas. Prior to working at MS Amlin, Hugo was an Analyst with Advanced Power, a privately owned company that develops and manages power generation and related infrastructure projects throughout Europe and North America.

Hugo’s appointment is the latest in a series of key hires for Carbon as the business continues to evolve rapidly as a leading technology-driven MGU and Lloyd’s Syndicate.

Nick Tye, Carbon CEO, said:

“The quality of our business is testament to the quality of our people, and it is extremely gratifying that we continue to attract talent of the calibre of Hugo to the Carbon family.

Carbon is maturing as a global business, and one which is highly-efficient, operationally resilient and able to adapt swiftly and nimbly for the benefit of our partners. New technologies such as our proprietary technology platform, Graphene, allow us to provide superior data analysis and management to our coverholders while giving us deep insights into our clients’ businesses.

We work as a tight team with an unrelenting focus on underwriting discipline and operational excellence, and I believe that we are strongly positioned to deliver sustained profitable growth in the future.

I am delighted to welcome Hugo and I know that we will benefit enormously from his extensive operations and wider market experience. I hope that he will enjoy the entrepreneurial and supportive culture we have fostered here at Carbon.”

Hugo Bashall, Head of Operations, commente:

“The Carbon business model is genuinely game-changing and the excellent team here has achieved considerable success in a short space of time. I’ve been particularly impressed with the scope of Carbon’s ambitions and the team’s clear ability to achieve what they set out to do.

It is a truly collaborative culture across each discipline within the business and I’m really looking forward to sharing my experiences and insights from the industries I’ve worked in and applying them to the successful strategy and operational excellence that Carbon is on track to achieve.”
